Create a Cash Machine

By Bette Daoust, Ph.D.

A cash machine is what everyone needs in order to cover the basics: food, shelter, and clothing. It is also the machine that provides us with the extras that keep us comfortable (who wants to do without a car, house, travel, and more). Most people in the US (or the western hemisphere) depend on their job to be the cash machine.

Unfortunately the days of getting a job for life are no longer a reality. Jobs last anywhere from one to seven years and even that is a stretch. The only time you can keep a job for life, is to create it yourself. But are you willing to do all the necessary work to establish that cash machine that will take care of you and your family?

Eighty percent of Americans say NO, we would rather have someone else run the business and we just do our job. For the other 20%, the answer is clear, they want to get away from the Rat Race (as in Robert Kiyosaki's Cash Flow game) and start generating their own income.

It comes down to defining how you can make money by using your expertise. It is difficult to quit a job to start on your own if you do not have all the information you need to be successful. It is beyond knowledge as well. You need to have connections, enough money to support yourself for at least 6 months, and support of your family.

For me, I have decided that I need several small streams of income. I do not want to rely on one source alone. I look for places I can receive a positive cash flow and enough cash flow to support my basic needs plus enough to further create more income.

I am involved with at least 10 projects at any one time. Some are speculative while others give me immediate hard cash. The best scenario is to balance the mix for maximum return.
